The Right or Wrong Side of Lucky

When our son recently came home from college, we were reminiscing about some of his freshman year memories. His introduction to Alabama has meant an introduction to hunting. Most of his roommates and friends have grown up hunting, so Mark is the newbie of the group... by a decade. Nonetheless, this past year, with the help of a very patient roommate, Mark has managed to get his first deer, his first duck, and his first turkey. As a mom with no orientation in hunting, I have acknowledged each of these events without a keen awareness that turkeys are, apparently, hard to kill. Mark helped bring me up to speed by explaining how many of his Bama friends had waited years to claim their first turkey. “Mom, I was just on the right side of lucky,” he said.Hmmm. It’s nice to be on the right side of lucky. Whatever that is. I don’t actually believe in the luck thing, but I’m sure we can all think of days when everything goes well… and days when everything seems to go wrong. What I’m learning in this season of life is that there have been many days when everything went well, but I didn’t stop long enough to appreciate the blessings. So, no matter what side of things you land on, here are 4 commitments I encourage you to make:1. Appreciate what’s good.God gives us the breath we need. Don’t take your health and His provision to feed, clothe, and protect you for granted. Praise God for what we accidentally take for granted each day. Luke 12:22-31[bctt tweet="Remember that God is always for you."]2. Remember that God is always for you.God’s desire is always for us to become more like Him. He loves us as a perfect Father. We will experience trials, discipline, and judgment. Sometimes we have a hard time identifying which of the three has come our way. Keep your eyes locked on God’s unchanging love for you. Psalm 62:83. Be bare before God.Leave nothing hidden. Allow Him to search you and mold you into who He desires you to be. Psalm 139:23-244. Ask Him what He wants you to learn. In the good and in the tough, there’s always a God perspective. The question is: Will we ask God to show us His perspective? It’s easy to forget to ask when life is smooth and it’s easy to want to avoid asking when life is tough… but it’s this question that allows us to persevere through the tough and not waste a breath. Psalm 86:11[bctt tweet="There's always a God perspective. Ask Him to show you what it is."]
