Too Hot or Too Cold?

I’m a summer girl. My childhood was spent in Florida and I can't seem to shake the desire for warm weather. The return to temperatures in the 80s in the Memphis area is OK by me. That being said, I recently decided that instead of dreading the inevitable gray, cold days ahead, a little shift in perspective could do wonders for me. So, here’s my attempt at seeing the best about each season. After all, God went to enormous lengths to finely craft each one.FALL

  • Not too hot and not too cold… just right. No matter your weather preference, it's hard to be grumpy during fall.
  • There are lots of opportunities for no-pressure community. Whether you like football games, or sitting outside on a patio with friends, or gathering for a play date at the park, you can gather without having to clean your house!
  • Sweaters (eventually), boots, and scarves make their return.
  • An opportunity for new beginnings in the middle of the year as school starts for many of us.

WINTER

  • You no longer have to keep your toenails polished.
  • Shaving… What’s that?
  • Days are shorter, which means usually activities end earlier and everyone gets home at a better time.
  • There's nothing better than an unexpected and unnecessary snow day to simply break the monotony of the crazy pace most of us keep.
  • An entire meal in a bowl becomes an acceptable dinner option. Hooray for soups!

SPRING

  • If you're in Memphis, just when you think you can't take any more cold weather, we’re done.
  • There's nothing like that feeling of getting de-cluttered after the winter and having a good spring cleaning.
  • After the winter, even 50° in the sun feels like a day at the beach!
  • Hope is in the air as everything begins to bloom again.

SUMMER

  • Structure and the fast pace of the fall, winter, and spring relent.
  • Days are bright and long.
  • Jerry’s Snow Cones, anyone?
  • No lunch packing or homework.

Perspective really is everything. We’re not promised tomorrow. May we each decide to focus on all that’s good, regardless of what the weatherman says.I’d love to hear from you: What are you looking forward to the most as another summer heads off into the sunset?
