Where is God in your storm?
If everything in your life right now is pretty good and 2020 is ringing in bright and cheery, then the answer to the question posed in this blog title is fairly simple.Obviously, we know that God’s right with us in the midst of our storm. Every good Christian knows the answer. Until all hell breaks loose. Until your spouse cheats on you. Until you’re deeply betrayed. Until your child is diagnosed with a disease. Until your character is attacked. Until depression or drugs attack someone you care about. Until you lose your job. Then, if we put down our masks, the question gets harder to answer.
Why did God allow it?Why didn’t God stop it?Why doesn’t He expose the truth? Why doesn’t He heal? Why doesn’t He answer my prayers?Where is God?
If you spend a little bit of time in the New Testament, you might even get an eye roll and the acknowledgment that He may be “asleep on the boat.” Not so helpful.
The Conlees are finally seeing our storm calm. But I will say that this storm has forever changed me and how I will extend compassion to those in the path of a storm. If that’s you right now, I hope you’ll be as encouraged as I was when I recently read Deuteronomy 1:30-31…
“The Lord your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.”
I know there are some jacked up parent–child relationships out there, but the reality that my God carried me through the wilderness in the same way that my husband or I would carry our children is such a comfort and such a reminder of how much our God is always with us, even when we can’t see Him or feel Him.
No matter how deep your valley or how dark your pain, your Heavenly Father loves you. When we’re wounded, it’s easy for our defenses to go down and for us to begin to believe the lies whispered around us that God doesn’t care. But it simply isn’t true.If you’re fighting to believe what is true, remember that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Truth lives in our Heavenly Father and He is the perfect Father who will carry you through this storm. All. The. Way.
