You Really Don't Matter
This past weekend, the women of Highpoint Church had the opportunity to leave their normal routines and attend Getaway 2015. On the first night, I was honored to share a message on the subject of courage through the story of King Asa’s obedience in 2 Chronicles 15. It was a sweet night and over the next few blogs I’ll share a few key truths from that message that I pray will encourage you. It was Saturday morning, however, that brought the biggest smile to my face. Our guest speaker for both sessions on Saturday was an incredible woman by the name of Phyllis Hendry. She had arrived Friday night and attended the first session. I had spoken with Phyllis briefly before I taught, but not after. She had slipped away to get some rest… or so I thought. I learned Saturday morning that God had redirected her message through the night and she was actually going to continue in 2 Chronicles. As she took the platform and read a few verses from 2 Chronicles 16, my jaw dropped. I had to smile. You see, I had been pronouncing King Asa like uh–saw. She just had to say King Asa (ay-suh) once for me to realize that I had not only butchered his name once, but one thousand times the night before. Perfect. You just have to smile when your stupidity is exposed!Between sessions, I mentioned my blunder to Phyllis. She sweetly responded that she had wondered if she had been mispronouncing his name all these years when she heard me teach! She went back to her room and found an online audio bible to double check herself. Sure wish I had done that!In the last couple of days, our Getaway team has been so encouraged by the number of stories confirming exactly what we had prayed for: that God would show up and allow women to experience genuine breakthroughs in their walks with the Lord. Here’s what’s so beautiful: it didn’t matter if I butchered a king’s name or had my shirt on backwards or had the perfect illustration. What mattered was the same thing that mattered when King Asa’s army came up against one million Ethiopian soldiers. What mattered was that he had called out to God, knowing he was nothing if the Lord didn’t show up.You and I don’t really matter. We think that our success or failure is what matters. Yes, we matter to God. Yes, He uses us. Yes, I’m playing with words! But do you get the point? We think it’s our performance that’s the game changer. No – God is the game changer. What really matters is whether or not we will seek Him. Will we acknowledge we desperately need Him and His presence? Do we realize that His presence is what matters? Is there something in your life right now that you really need to go well? Are you feeling pressure in a particular situation or relationship? We must do our part and strive to glorify Him in all we do… but can I encourage you? Our best is never good enough… but as long as God shows up, God will make up for all our inadequacies. What matters is whether or not we seek God.I’m so grateful for the prayer warriors at Highpoint who have spent the last several months praying for God to show up this past weekend. He did. twitter | facebook
