Day 5: Peace Beyond Christmas

Welcome to Day 5! If you are new to this idea of a Priority Time, I hope you will take advantage of the many resources available, including the 3 part sermon series, Peace Beyond Christmas: A Priority Time Series, I am currently teaching at One City Church. When I grasped what was keeping me from spending time with Him and then how much He wanted to speak to me, everything in my walk with the Lord began to blossom. I deeply want that for each of you and more importantly, God does too.

Along the way, I want to offer some pointers that I have learned over the years. Here is one as you start day five:

One of the most common reasons that people don't feel like they hear from the Lord is the pace at which we do things and the amount of distraction that is constantly around us. Your priority time does not have to be unending, but it should be unhurried and, ideally, undistracted. Set a timer if you are worried about being late to your next thing, but make time as you pray to pause and ask the Lord what is on His heart. Prayer should be a two way conversation, not a monologue.

Day 5

19But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. 21And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.” Luke 2:19-21

FOCUSED THINKING

How did Mary respond to what she heard? (review the previous few verses for context)

What do we learn about the shepherds’ actions?

What happened “at the end of 8 days”?

What does Luke reference about Jesus’s name?

PERSONAL APPLICATION

Lord, what do I need to treasure in my heart and ponder right now?

Lord, what do you want me to see about me or You in this account?
